Prof. Nguyen Van Tu was a medical educator who made important contributions to training and to the development of academic standards at the Hue Faculty of Medicine in the period before 1975. According to the school’s historical records, he was one of the representative figures among the generation of physician-educators who helped lay the foundation for medical education in Central Vietnam.

During his career, Prof. Nguyen Van Tu held several important positions in the field of academic affairs, including Head of Undergraduate Training and Head of Postgraduate Training. His responsibility for these key academic areas shows that he played a significant role in organizing training programs, maintaining academic discipline, and helping shape the educational management system of the Hue Faculty of Medicine during its early years of development.

In addition to his work in academic administration, historical records from departments of the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy also identify Dr. Nguyen Van Tu as one of the early lecturers involved in clinical teaching, with his name appearing in the historical staff list of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. This shows that he was not only an academic administrator, but also a teacher directly engaged in professional training, contributing to the education and clinical development of many generations of medical students.

In the memories of former lecturers and alumni of Hue Medical School, Prof. Nguyen Van Tu is often mentioned alongside distinguished medical educators such as Le Ba Van and Le Van Bach as one of those who accompanied, preserved, and advanced the academic traditions of the school through a period of considerable change. This image reflects the respect that colleagues and students held for him, not only for his professional competence but also for his sense of responsibility, calm demeanor, and dedication to medical education.

The life and career of Prof. Nguyen Van Tu were closely associated with an important chapter in the history of medical education in Hue. His contributions can be seen in two major areas: academic training and clinical teaching. He was one of the representative figures among the physician-educators who helped build academic discipline, strengthen tradition, and preserve the scholarly values of one of Central Vietnam’s major centers of medical training.

Honoring Prof. Nguyen Van Tu is not only a recognition of an individual with many contributions, but also an opportunity to remind present and future generations of the enduring role of teachers in building the foundations of knowledge, professional character, and the traditions of Vietnamese medicine.
