Dr. Le Ba Nhan was a medical educator who made important contributions to the training and development of the basic medical sciences at the Hue Faculty of Medicine. His name is associated with the period in which the school’s academic foundations were formed and strengthened, particularly in the fields of Microbiology and Biochemistry—disciplines that play an essential role in medical education.

According to the historical records of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, in 1976, when the former Department of Microbiology was divided into two independent units, Dr. Le Ba Nhan was assigned to lead the Department of Microbiology, taking responsibility for teaching medical microbiology, including bacteriology and virology, to long-program medical students. This was an important milestone, showing that he was among those who directly laid the foundation for the organization and development of microbiology teaching in Hue during a new phase of development.

In addition to his work in Microbiology, historical records of the Department of Biochemistry also mention Dr. Le Ba Nhan as one of the lecturers and educators who contributed to the development of that department over the years. This indicates that his academic role was not limited to a single specialty, but was also closely connected with the process of building and strengthening the system of basic sciences in medical education—an essential foundation for the development of clinical thinking and scientific research among medical students.

In the memories of former lecturers and alumni of Hue Medical School, Dr. Le Ba Nhan is remembered as a model teacher—rigorous in scholarship and devoted to teaching. A memorial notice published in 2021 by the Hue medical alumni community stated that he passed away in Ho Chi Minh City on November 26, 2021, and expressed deep respect for a teacher who not only conveyed professional knowledge but also left a shining example of character and way of life for many generations of students.

The life and career of Dr. Le Ba Nhan were closely linked to an important chapter in the history of medical education in Hue. His contributions were especially evident in the areas of department building, basic medical science education, and the cultivation of scientific foundations for medical students. He was one of the representative figures among the physician-educators who helped nurture academic traditions and enhance the quality of training at one of Central Vietnam’s major medical centers.

Honoring Dr. Le Ba Nhan is not only a recognition of an individual with many contributions, but also an opportunity to remind present and future generations of the enduring role of teachers in building scientific foundations, preserving academic spirit, and inspiring the development of Vietnamese medicine.
