The Early Modern and Modern eras represent the most critical turning point in medical history: shifting from observing external symptoms to identifying the root causes of disease at the cellular and microbiological levels.   • Epidemiology & Immunization: Edward Jenner created the smallpox vaccine (1796), the world's first vaccine. By the 19th and 20th centuries, mass vaccination campaigns and clean water infrastructure successfully curbed global epidemics.
